Over the past century, the diversity of predators in Israel has drastically decreased, mainly due to hunting, poisoning, destruction of natural habitats, and because of their fierce competition with... the house cat. Here are some of the more common species that survived in their natural habitats in Israel, and are seen more and more today in developed areas.
Three of the predators in the display are mammals, but each is from a different genus: the Eurasian badger - from the Mustelidae family, the red fox, from the Canidae family, and the mongoose, from the Herpestidae family. All three feed off of small and medium-sized prey, such as rodents, birds, lizards, and snakes.
In the display window, there are also two birds of prey: the harrier, from the Accipitriformes order, and the Eurasian eagle owl, from the Strigiformes order. Both prey on rodents and birds, but each of them hunts at different hours.
