We are looking at a unique and rare find: an African darter, which once migrated from southern Turkey to Lake Hula in the autumn and winter. It is related to the cormorant and the pelican, and also consumes fish. The draining of Lake Hula in the fifties and of Lake Amik in Turkey in the seventies led to the extinction of many species, and among them - the darter also disappeared from our region.

The images at the center of the display show samples of freshwater plants that used to grow in Israel and are now extinct, as a result of the draining or pollution of rivers. Many species of animals and plants in freshwater habitats are in constant danger of extinction due to fierce competition, overuse, and pollution caused by humans in freshwater areas.
